In 1976, business investor and financier Henry Kravis, George Roberts and partners, formed one of the leading private equity firms in the country, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts and Co (KKR). For more than 20 years, Henry Kravis, along with his partners, has manned the company and shaped it to become a leading worldwide alternative asset manager that has earned over $48 billion in assets under management. In addition, he actively participates in administering the business and functions on its Investment and Portfolio Management Committees.

Before he and his partners founded KKR, Henry Kravis was with Bear Stearns and Company, under the Corporate Finance department, between 1969 and 1976. During those years, he led the practice of leverage in acquisitions with partners Kohlberg and Roberts.

Throughout the years of his career, he has been one of the board of directors or trustees of various private and public businesses, academic and cultural institutions such as: Claremont McKenna College (his alma mater), Columbia Graduate School of Business (where he is the Board chairman), Rockefeller University, the Partnership for New York City, Public Television Channel 13/WNET New York and Mount Sinai Hospital.

Prior to these ventures, Henry Kravis attended Claremont McKenna College, taking up an economics major. He proceeded to Columbia University Graduate School of Business, where he earned his Master’s degree.

At present, Henry Kravis is the New York City Investment Fund (NYCIF) co-chairman. The NYCIF is a nonprofit association that he established in 1996, specializing in creating jobs and serving small business in the city.
